Six, Tom (2026) Review of Ungrounding: The Architecture of Genocide by Eyal Weizman. Journal of Visual Culture. ISSN 1470-4129 (In Press)
Abstract
This review argues that Weizman's magisterial account of Israeli settler colonialism and genocide in Gaza constitutes crucial and extraordinary evidentiary resistance to genocide. On the other hand, it critiques Weizman and Forensic Architecture's amassed and computer-modelled evidence, which abstracts and quantifies people, objects and events, for reproducing, in some respects, the colonial aesthetics they set out to oppose. It argues that a wholly different aesthetic and epistemological project will be required for the work of replenishment by which the decolonization of Palestine will stand or fall.
