Abstract

This reflective account looks at an ongoing piece of practice research, where I apply walking-scenographic methods within coastal landscapes to question how transness might be approached beyond a suggestion of individual identity. I argue that both walking methods and scenographic practices provide ways of articulating and encountering material processes that extend beyond anthropocentrism, and that the enmeshment between bodies and surrounding ecologies that occurs while walking can contribute ways of understanding transness beyond expectations of legibility and linearity. This disrupts cisnormative discussions of transness, which are limited by binary presentations of gender and a linear understanding of transition.
